What It Is

A tool that feels what hands miss.

IASTM stands for instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization. Your Doctor of Physical Therapy uses a smooth, contoured stainless steel tool, drawn across the skin over a restricted area with a lubricant so it glides.

The instrument does two things fingers cannot. It sends texture back up to his hand, so a dense, gritty patch is far easier to locate than by touch alone. And it concentrates force into a small area, which is hard to reproduce with thumbs and harder still to repeat all day without wrecking them.

Here is the part other sites skip. IASTM commonly leaves temporary redness, sometimes small pinpoint marks, and a day or two of soreness. It does not permanently break scar tissue down, and we will not tell you it does. What changes is how that area tolerates being stretched and loaded, which is why the tool is never the end of the session. It is also not right for every skin and medication situation, which is one reason the screening comes first.

What It Helps

Built for scarred and stubborn tissue.

You did the surgery, you did the six weeks, you did everything they asked of you. The scar did not get the memo. Spend another year reaching around it and the joint above it starts paying the bill.

What A Session Looks Like

Three steps, one visit.

1

We screen the skin and clear the area.

2

The tool finds the dense spot.

3

You load it while the window is open.

Why It Works

What it gets you back.

The scar stops deciding how far you reach.

Old tissue tolerates real work again.

You stop chasing the wrong spot.

Progress that had stalled starts moving.

Questions, Answered

The tool, the marks, the truth.

Sometimes, and you deserve to know that before you book rather than after. Redness is common, small pinpoint marks happen, and a day or two of soreness is normal. It fades. If you have a wedding, a photo, or a game this week, say so and we work lighter or work elsewhere. Nothing here gets sprung on you.

Not permanently, and we will not pretend otherwise. What changes is how the area responds afterward: it takes stretch and load better, and you move through it more freely. That window is the whole point of the technique. You spend the rest of the visit loading the area so the improvement has a reason to stick, one-on-one with a Doctor of Physical Therapy, every visit.

It depends on your plan, and we would rather tell you straight than guess. Use the free benefits check and we will confirm exactly what your plan covers before you commit to anything. Prefer to just ask a person? Call (336) 214-5308.
